A car struck and killed a pedestrian in Speedway
Speedway, Indiana – On Saturday night, a car hit and killed a pedestrian in Speedway who was attempting to cross the street.
Before being hit by an oncoming car, the person was reportedly trying to cross the road close to West 30th Street and North High School Road, according to a Speedway Police Department official. At 6:49 p.m., authorities arrived on the site for the first time.
“We’d encourage people, with it being dark outside earlier, to wear bright-colored clothing, to be careful when you’re crossing the streets, and use all the crosswalks that are provided to you by the city and state,” SPD Public Information Officer Jacob McAtee said.
At the scene, the person—whom SPD has identified as an adult male—was declared deceased. According to SPD, the driver of the car that hit the victim remained at the scene of the collision and cooperated with police.
Although the accident is still being looked into, SPD officers do not think the driver was intoxicated when it happened. For the next few hours, police are advising local drivers to look for other routes as they investigate the crash’s causes.
