A neighborhood in Hendricks County is worried about the possibility of industrial rezoning
Hendricks County, Indiana – People who live in a neighborhood in Hendricks County on the edge of the Town of Brownsburg are very worried about a plan to turn nearby fields into an industrial zone.
A lot of people who live in Highland Springs probably said they moved there to find peace and quiet.
Jonathan Hibbard, the homeowner, said, “You come out here and look at the backyards. It’s beautiful.” “The view is beautiful.” These are the things we were told would happen when we bought the house. “These are the kinds of things you want to be able to give your kids.”
The area is on the edge of Brownsburg in Hendricks County, but it’s not really in the Town of Brownsburg.
“Basically, we’re disenfranchised county residents here,” Hibbard said.
When Hibbard and some other neighbors found out that the Town of Brownsburg wanted to change the use of land right in their backyards, they said they felt alone and powerless.
A neighbor named Cheryl Smitherman said, “We don’t want Brownsburg to become a concrete jungle.”
The land is not yet part of the Town of Brownsburg, but officials want to change its use zone so that it can be used for industry. That could be anything from a factory that makes chemicals to one that makes biodiesel.
Hibbard asked, “Who wants that in their backyard?” “Nobody.”
Smitherman and his neighbors are worried and curious about the plan in many ways.
What effect does it have on the native habitat? asked Smitherman. “What effects do the sound and air have on the environment?” Is it going to be a big building that makes it impossible for us to sell our home?
Smitherman said that her main concern is the health of her family.
“Four times I’ve beat cancer, so that affects me,” she said. It’s important to have clean air because three of my five kids have asthma.
People who live nearby said it’s fine if those fields are finally used for something else, but they want it to be done in a way that is safe, open, and cooperative.
Smitherman said, “We want to work together in a good way.” “We want being honest.” Our goal is to have a say in this process so that the effects on our health, the environment, and the value of our homes are kept to a minimum.
Right now, the town council is set to vote on the matter on Thursday. People who live nearby said that a council member did come out and talk to them on Monday night.
