Indianapolis, Indiana – With extreme cold weather anticipated in Central Indiana over the coming days, AES Indiana officials have stated that they are fully staffed and ready to handle the heightened demand for electricity.

AES Indiana has issued a news release stating that a cold weather advisory is currently in effect due to temperatures and wind chills expected to range from -10 to -20 degrees.

AES Indiana has shared several energy efficiency tips for those affected by the severe cold weather conditions:

• Set the thermostat back at least eight degrees each day when they are at work and when they go to bed. AES Indiana states that 70 degrees is a good threshold when you are at home and lower when you’re at work or sleeping.

• Don’t set the thermostat higher if they’re trying to heat their home quickly. AES Indiana said it will not heat the home any faster and it runs the system longer than necessary

• Don’t let anything, including furniture, drapes, and curtains, block heating airflow

If a person’s power goes out during the extreme cold weather, AES Indiana states that they should:

• Turn off all appliances but leave on one lamp to know when power is restored

• Keep freezer and refrigerator doors closed

Officials have advised that when indoor temperatures drop below 55 degrees, individuals should slightly open their faucets to allow a constant drip, which helps prevent pipes from freezing.
