Indianapolis, Indiana – Approximately 140 members of the Indiana National Guard have arrived in Washington, D.C. to provide security for the nation’s capital during the presidential inauguration on Monday.

On Monday at 12 p.m., President-elect Donald Trump will take his oath of office, signifying the 60th inauguration in American history.

Hoosier national guardsmen are set to team up with 8,000 fellow guardsmen hailing from approximately 40 states.

“Our team will assist with various traffic control points,” stated Lt. Col. Amy Hoover, who serves as the director of military support at the Indiana Army National Guard. “As individuals arrive, it’s important to assist them by providing clear guidance.” In situations involving large groups, we refer to it as managing the crowd. We are assisting individuals who may be lost or confused on the metro or at intersections by providing guidance and information.

The guardsmen hail from various locations across the state, such as Jasper, Plymouth, Monticello, Remington, and Indy. This significant day signifies the third straight inauguration in which the Indiana National Guard has taken part.

Years of preparation underpin their work.

“In terms of preparation, it’s something we regularly engage in for the National Guard,” Hoover stated. “We are fully prepared to carry out the inauguration.” The inaugural event marked the first participation of the National Guard.
