Bloomington Man Arrested After Stealing Items From Greene County Store
A Bloomington man who allegedly used receipts found in store parking lots in a scheme to obtain cash for fraudulent returns was arrested on Friday.
Linton Police officers arrested 39-year-old Jamie Curry on a charge of theft on Friday, April 24th after a warrant was issued for his arrest in mid-March. He posted a $400 cash bond and was released from the Greene County Jail.
According a probable cause affidavit, Linton police officers were called to the Linton Walmart around 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 27th after an asset protection employee stopped Curry for shoplifting.
The store’s asset protection associate told police they watched Curry select a television from the electronics department then speaker wire from the automotive department. Curry then went to the service desk and completed a transaction to receive cash for returning the items.
Store officials provided police with video surveillance of the incident. The total value of the items involved in the transaction was $251.02.
During a later interview with police, Curry admitted he would find receipts in the parking lots of stores, then use them as a shopping list. After selecting all of the items, he would then take them to the store’s service desk and return them to get cash.
Curry is currently scheduled to appear in Greene Superior Court for his initial hearing on May 14th.
