Boone County named Community of the Year by Indiana Chamber of Commerce

Lebanon, Indiana – Boone County was selected the state’s community of the year on Wednesday by the Indiana Chamber of Commerce.
The chamber cited the county’s initiatives to develop the region and promote it as a top tourist and economic destination.
According to Molly Whitehead, executive director of the Boone County Economic Development Corporation, the county has seen new capital investment announcements totaling roughly $800 million since 2018.
“That (investment) certainly speaks to our ability to attract those businesses but so many of them have been companies that are already here in the county. We have retained them and helped them grow,” Whitehead said.
80% of the local economy in Boone County, according to Whitehead, is made up of small businesses, and during the past three years, local businesses in Boone County have created close to 2,000 new employment.
