Parkinson’s disease coalition holds Indiana Statehouse rally
Indianapolis, Indiana – To increase awareness of the neurological condition that is increasing at the fastest rate, members of the Indiana Parkinson’s Action Coalition staged a rally and information fair at the Statehouse on Tuesday.
In Indiana, 20,000 individuals suffer from Parkinson’s disease.
The group wants to improve coordination amongst Indianapolis’s major Parkinson’s stakeholders and link individuals living with the condition to neighborhood resources.
Exercise is one of the greatest ways to raise awareness and provide therapy, according to Terri Weymouth, an advocate for the Parkinson’s Foundation.
“It’s about exercising with people who have the same illness. Everyone is looking out for their fellow boxer or workout person, and that sense of community is critical for people with Parkinson’s.”
The coalition is made up of several Hoosier-focused groups that assist those who suffer from the illness.
