Prisoner at Howard County Jail passed away from natural causes
Kokomo, Indiana – The death of an inmate who was discovered in his cell in October was due to natural causes, according to the Howard County Coroner’s Office, which made the announcement on Thursday.
Rick Bartel, who was 51 years old at the time, was discovered comatose in his Howard County Jail cell on October 28 at 11:30 a.m.
Bartel was transferred to a nearby hospital, but he did not survive his stay there.
Bartel’s death was determined to have been caused by two separate pulmonary emboli, as stated in the autopsy..
