The 20th annual “Mutt Strut” supports Indianapolis Humane

Indianapolis, Indiana – At White River State Park on Saturday, pet owners had a reason to dress up their dogs for Halloween—all in support of a worthy cause.
For the 20th year, Indy Humane held the Mutt Strut to collect funds for the shelter. It’s the nonprofit’s biggest annual fundraiser, according to Colleen Walker, coordinator of marketing and public relations.
“All of the funds go back to the animals at the shelter,” Walker said. “We are a privately funded shelter … everything just goes straight back into the operations and the animals at the shelter.”
The event this year featured wiener dog races, live music, food trucks, local vendors, a costume contest, and a 5k.
Dogs from the animal shelter were also brought, and they could be adopted right there. There will be a procession across the park when the furry companions will be displayed to the attendees.
Walker expresses gratitude to the community for contributing to the event’s yearly success.
“People just love being able to bring their dogs and kind of hang out in a big setting with a bunch of different dogs, with animal lovers,” Walker said. “I think that’s kind of the biggest thing is just being able to bring your dogs out and kind of chill for the day.”
