Using the authority of the Indiana Code, the Lawrence County Commissioners approve an ordinance designating the County Administrator

Lawrence County, Indiana – Many Lawrence County council members were taken aback by the unexpected proposal to abolish the Administrative Director post during a budget hearing on September 17 and demanded clarification. Members of the council were told that the cut was required due to financial constraints.

Significant concerns have been raised by the idea, especially as the council’s decision startled the Lawrence County Commissioners, who nominated the Administrative Director, and they were not aware of the upcoming cut. Additionally, Travis Sanders, the current Administrative Director, was not made aware that his job was in danger.

The council did not take any steps to restore the Administrative Director job in spite of these requests. The commissioners responded to the problem this morning by passing an act designating a county administrator under their supervision, as permitted by Indiana Code section 36-2-2-14.

It is yet unknown how the council will react in the future, who will eventually take over the administrative responsibilities, and how the post will be paid going ahead.
