Huge publisher aiming to expand 650,000 square feet in Crawfordsville
Crawfordsville, Indiana – There are plans to expand a fulfillment center located in Crawfordsville.
A news release states that Penguin Random House is expanding its current Montgomery County location by 650,000 square feet. The facility’s yearly exports of physical books will double as a result of the expansion, which will also strengthen the company’s supply chain.
Penguin Random House is requesting $5.6 million in tax benefits as part of the expansion. On May 13, the Crawfordsville City Council will consider the plan.
“Penguin Random House has continued to grow in Crawfordsville and has become a strong partner in our success,” shared Mayor Todd Barton. “This new investment in their Crawfordsville operations further solidifies their position as an industry leader and as a premier employer in our region. We greatly appreciate their ongoing confidence in this community and look forward to working alongside them to ensure the success of this new expansion.”
More than 450 million books are shipped by the publisher annually, and it has published more than 80 Nobel and 120 Pulitzer Prize winners.
With two located in Maryland and one in Reno, Nevada, the Crawfordsville facility is one of four supply-chain book centers in the United States. The Indiana location ships backlist titles from multiple book lines in addition to recently released hardcovers and paperbacks.

The news statement states that 900 of Penguin Random House’s 10,000 employees work at the Crawfordsville location. Penguin Random House is the largest trade book publisher in the world.
In Montgomery County, Indiana, Crawfordsville serves as the county seat and is home to more than 16,000 people. around one hour to the west of Indianapolis.
